We have deconstructed hundreds of creative writing texts. Whether you need a manuscript edited for continuity and themes or simply a short story proofread, we can help.

Content Editing: an analysis of the plot, characters, dialogue, detail and setting, voice, themes, flow, continuity, as well as, grammar and syntax, word choice and punctuation. Content editing will help you find missed opportunities, and refine your creative work.

Line Editing or Proofreading: line by line for grammar, spelling, punctuation, errors, and general readability.

In both cases, you will receive written feedback. That is, a 1 to 2 page written response focused on what the story is saying to the reader with questions and suggestions. Specifically, this feedback will focus on what's working really well and what to address in order to refine your piece.

Pricing*

PLEASE NOTE: For longer manuscripts, a down-payment and installment option is the default arrangement. The downpayment ($100.00) will be applied to the final cost. 

The pricing/payment options will be discussed once the manuscript (file or printed) is sent to Words Matter and it is accepted by the editor. The baseline cost for longer manuscripts is $130 per 10,000 words. Some adjustment may be made, depending on the editor's assessment or discretion. All costs will be agreed to in advance, before work is started.

Typically, the payment is half-payment at acceptance, and half-payment at completion. The $100 deposit is applied to these fees.

In the event the manuscript is not accepted by Words Matter, the downpayment fee will be refunded. No editing or critique work will be done on the manuscript until both parties are in agreement about the financial arrangements.

*All works must be formatted as follows before editing: 12 point font in Times or Arial, double-spaced lines, and 1-inch margins on all sides with consistent paragraph indention or additional spacing between paragraphs. Files in WORD or PAGES format preferred. Manuscripts submitted in another format will be reformatted to standard at an extra cost.

Short Manuscript (up to 3,000 words) - $35.00 flat rate

Medium Manuscript (3,001 to 15,000) - $3.50 per page

Once you have paid, you will receive an email within one to two days asking you to send your work via email in a MS Word or Apple Pages format. In-person or mailed manuscripts can be arranged, if that is your preference.
